Levert WorkSafe Services Inc. is proud to offer a 4-hour in-class course on Black Bear Safety & Awareness. This course focuses on limiting the risk of injury from encounters with blackbears through education, awareness and training.

Why Black Bear Safety is Important:

Northern Ontario is in the heart of bear country. There have been several black bear attacks recorded in the past decade. This course will be suitable for people working in the outdoors as well as the general public.

Employers have a legal responsibility to ensure the health and safety of their employees. This means ensuring your employees have been trained to deal with any potential hazards they may encounter on the job. Through education and awareness, the risk of injury is far less likely.

From employers to employees, it is important to be up-to-date with workplace work and safety. Begin your spring season with your safest foot forward. Classes start in mid-April, with schedules to be confirmed. Course: Health, Safety and the Law

Delivery: 6 hours, classroom training

Based on the Occupational Health and Safety Act, this course is designed to help you improve your organization’s health and safety performance, as well as instill a better understanding of the importance of compliance. Topics include: due diligence, requirements for health and safety representatives, joint health and safety committees, how to address work refusals and much more.

Penalities for non-compliance could be as high as $500,000! To ensure the wellbeing of your employees as well as your organizations’s finances and reputation, this course is essential to supervisors, managers, safety professionals and health and safety committee members.

 

Course: Workplace Inspection

Delivery: 4 hours, classroom

Workplace Inspection is essential to accident prevention. participants will learn to recognize hazards and potential azards, perform assessments and implement solutions to ensure that your organization is meeting all legislated regulations and requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.

 

Course:  Accident Investigation

Duration: 4 hours, classroom

In order to prevent accidents at the workpalce, it is important to investigate such incidents, develop and implement solutions, as well as prepare thorough reports. In this 4-hour course, you’ll learn what needs to be done, what y our responsibilities are and what tools are at your disposal to prevent future accidents.

 

Course: Confined Space Training, specific to Xstrata Nickel Sudbury Smelter

Duration: On-going

Levert provides site-specific confined space training for Xstrata Nickel. In fact, if you wish to perform confined space dutiesf or Xstrata Nickel, it is mandatory that you complete your training with Levert. For more information, click on the link.

Do you know the difference between Grizzly Bears and Black Bears? Do you know their temperaments? In the event of a predatory encounter, what can you do?

Knowing the nature of bears can be a matter of life and death, especially for people who consistently work outdoors in the wilderness. This course will be very beneficial to people working in the following sectors: mining, fourestry, provincial parks, outdoors recreation (i.e. white water rafting, campgrounds, etc.).

Training in April: Confined Space Training for Xstrata Nickel’s contract workers

Xstrata Nickel Sudbury Smelter is committed to ensuring that they will meet or exceed the legislative requirements involved in entering confined spaces. To do so, Levert is working with Xstrata Nickel to deliver site-specific confined space training that all contract workers MUST receive.

In fact, ALL CONTRACT WORKERS performing the duties of Confined Space Attendants or Confined Space Entry Coordinators at Xstrata Nickel MUST receive Site-Specific Training through Levert. It is a mandatory requirement for Xstrata Nickel’s Safety and Training Department.

Training starts in mid-April 2011.

Protecting Workers From Workplace Violence and Workplace Harassment

Changes to Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) that will strengthen protections for workers from workplace violence and address workplace harassment are coming on June 15, 2010. These define workplace violence and harassment and describe employer duties, and will apply to all workplaces covered by the OHSA. North American Occupational Safety and Health Week

North American Occupational Safety and Health (NAOSH) Week begins Sunday, May 2, 2010, and runs until Saturday, May 8, 2010.

Every year, health and safety advocates and organizations across North America mark NAOSH Week by promoting awareness of workplace health and safety through local, provincial, and national events.

During NAOSH Week, organizations can learn more about workplace health and safety by participating in or sponsoring health and safety events such as training sessions, contests and community events.

The initiative is led by the Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) in partnership with the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC), in concert with North-American partners in Mexico and the United States.

The Canadian Launch of NAOSH Week 2010 will be held on Monday, May 3, in Charlottetown, P.E.I.

Resources are available from the Ministry of Labour to assist employers and workers in learning about safe workplace practices.

Getting Started on Prevention [ PDF | 484 KB ], developed by Ontario’s Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB), is an online booklet that offers health and safety information for business owners and managers.
